Kitt and Aldous, who live in Banksville, are appearing on "Candy Crush," the CBS game show based on the popular app at 9 p.m.

Kitt, an opera singer, and actress had never played the game before she auditioned, having heard about it in from a casting call. She initially applied to play herself, but then Aldous, a rising junior at Byram Hills High School, joined along.

"They like that we're musical," Kitt said. "Andrew plays the guitar and drums, he has a lot of talent. He is very gifted."

After interviewing with producers, mother and son found themselves on a flight to Los Angeles to play "Candy Crush."

In "Candy Crush," players advance by swapping out colored pieces of candy to match three or more of the same color.  As anyone who has been on Facebook knows, the game can be very addicting.

"People play it obsessively," Kitt said. "There are 1,000s of levels and you can get hooked on it."

Kitt admits she never played the game before she got on the show, but she had to get up to speed fast.

"We got hooked on the show," Kitt said. "I still play it."

Taping the show was a lot of fun and Kitt found it the perfect way to spend time with her teenage son.

"It's hard for us to find ways to bond," Kitt said. "The last thing he wants to do is to hang out with his mom. For us to have an adventure on a moment's notice is something we'll never forget."

Kitt said host Mario Lopez was very nice and was very easy to talk to. She said her and Aldous were so nervous that they were on edge the entire time they were in Los Angeles.

"We thought we'd go out and do some sightseeing but we spent the entire time processing everything," Kitt said.

While Kitt can't disclose how they did prior to Sunday's airing, she said if they are hoping to use any money won for a trip to Italy.

The family will be hosting a viewing party in Briarcliff, though Aldous is spending the summer in Israel.

"I'm nervous as to how they are going to edit it," Kitt said. "It will be interesting."

"Candy Crush" airs Sunday at 9 p.m. on CBS.
