Briarcliff Library to Host Gardening Experts

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – With winter almost non-existent and spring weather acting like summer, the Briarcliff Manor Public Library is thinking green.

Briarcliff Manor horticulturist Dawn Orza and Brooke Beebe, past direct of the Native Plant Center at Westchester Community College, are set to host “Going Green In The Garden” at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday. The event will offer residents the chance to learn about using native and local plants and organic methods in the garden. Orza and Beebe will also be on-hand to offer advice and gardening tips for residents.

“I work with native plants and gardening every day,” Orza said Thursday. “I think working with Brooke Beebe, we’ll make a good partnership to give a presentation on what people need to know about gardening.”

Orza is a lifelong resident of Briarcliff Manor and the chair of the Civic Beautification Committee in the village.

Briarcliff Library coordinator Shelley Glick said the recent warm temperatures inspired the event.

“Spring is here and it’s time to start planning the garden,” Glick said in an email. “This workshop will explore simple ways for homeowners to have beautiful gardens, be environmentally sensitive and bring birds and butterflies into their landscapes.”

Registration for the event is recommended. Those looking to register or learn more about the program are asked to email Glick or call the Briarcliff Manor Public Library at (914) 941-7072.
