What's Happening In Briarcliff Manor This Weekend

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Story breaks above the Briarcliff Manor pool in Law Memorial Park and Open Crafts at the Briarcliff Manor Public Library are some of the highlights of the weekend events. 

Friday, Aug. 17

Computer Help: 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Free drop-in help with computers. Residents can learn how to navigate Web pages and create documents in Microsoft programs. For more information, contact Cheryl at 914-941-2416, Ext. 315. Ossining Public Library, 53 Croton Ave.

Story Break At the Briarcliff Library: 4 p.m. The children’s librarian will stop by the pavilion above the pool at Briarcliff Manor’s Law Memorial Park to read a story every Friday through Aug. 17. Briarcliff Manor Public Library, 1 Library Road.

Open Crafts Day at the Briarcliff Library: 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Children of all ages are invited to stop in anytime and make something creative with the materials provided. Children under age 6 must have an adult helper. Briarcliff Manor Public Library, 1 Library Road.

Waterfront Concert Series: 7 p.m. Free concerts every Friday at Louis Engel Waterfront Park in Ossining. The concert series is organized through the Waterfront Visioning Committee. Food vendors are expected on site for the concert. The lineup includes Powderfinger on Aug. 17, Teri Lamar & The New Company on Aug. 24 and KJ Denhert on Aug. 25. Louis Engel Waterfront Park, Ossining.

Water Balloon Party on the Waterfront: 6 to 10 p.m. The Water Balloon Party/Cookout, put together by the Ossining Recreation Department is set so families can close out the week with a party at the waterfront. The event includes music, barbecue and a water balloon fight. Louis Engel Waterfront Park, Ossining.

Games at the Ossining Library: 3:30 to 5 p.m. Video and Board Games in the Budarz Theater. Ossining Public Library, 53 Croton Ave.

Saturday, Aug. 18

The Ossining Farmers Market: 8:30 a.m. to 1 p.m. The Farmers Market runs every Saturday through Dec. 15 and this week includes free tomato tasting. Market Square, Market and Spring Streets. 

Crow Play at Teatown: 1 to 2:30 p.m. Did you know that crows are so intelligent that they are sometimes called ''flying momkeys"? Find out what makes these birds tick by making crow enrichment toys with us. We’ll then take our creative inventions to their enclosure and watch how the crows interact with them. Free for members; $5 per person for non-members. Call 914-762-2912, Ext. 110 to make a reservation. Teatown Lake Reservation, Ossining.

Between the Covers Summer Reading Program for Adults: June 22 – August 23. Special events for adults 18-and-up, including movies and a book swap, will take place throughout the summer. Sunday, Aug. 19

Unbeatable Beaks at Teatown: 1 to 2:30 p.m. A bird is a bird is a bird--right? Find out about the adaptations of some local birds by looking at what they eat and how they do it. This interactive program will have you skimming like a duck, sipping like a hummingbird, and pounding like a woodpecker. Free for members; $5 per person for non-members. Waterfront Spray Park Open: Noon to 6 p.m. The Waterfront Spray Park at Louis Engel Waterfront Park is open from noon to 6 p.m. through the summer. Louis Engel Waterfront Park, Ossining.

The Ossining Public Library and Briarcliff Manor Public Library will be closed on Sunday for Summer Holiday Hours.
