Pleasantville's Jacob Burns Center Begins 'Sports On Film' Series

PLEASANTVILLE, N.Y. -- Jacob Burns Film Center will present its special film series, "We Got Game: Sports On Film" beginning Thursday, Jan. 16.

Tickets are $7 for members and $12 for non-members unless otherwise noted. Programmed by Gina Duncan and Andrew Jupin.

The event is being sponsored by Club Fit.

The schedule is as follows:

"Schooled: The Price of College Sports":  The film discusses how college sports became a billion dollar industry built on the backs of athletes deprived of numerous rights. Q&A Bobby Valentine, Sacred Heart University Athletic Director/executive producer, Andrew Muscato, producer, and ESPN investigative reporter T.J. Quinn.

A reception will take place upstairs after the discussion. Thursday, Jan. 16 at 7:30 p.m. Tickets: $15 (members), $25 (non-members).

"The Short Game": This film follows some of the best 7-year-old golfers in the world as they train and compete in the World Championship of Junior Golf.

After both screenings, there will be golf activities for adults and children. Monday, Jan. 20 at noon and 7:30 p.m.

"Lenny Cooke":  This documentary tracks the unfulfilled destiny of a man for whom super stardom was always just out of reach. Wednesday, Jan. 22 at 7:30 p.m.

"Weekend of a Champion": Car racing fan Roman Polanski produces a glimpse into the life of world champion driver, Jackie Stewart. Monday, Jan. 27 at 7:30 p.m.

"Ping Pong: Never Too Old for Gold": Eight competitors battle it out in the World Over-80s Table Tennis Championship. Q&A Westchester Table Tennis owner and crossword editor of the New York Times, Will Shortz, WTT manager Robert Roberts, and Kai Zhang, who is ranked No. 1 in the country (18 and under). There will be ping-pong after the discussion. Wednesday, Jan. 29 at 7:30 p.m.

"The Art of Flight: 3D Film!": This film gives  snowboarder, Travis Rice and friends, the opportunity to redefine what is possible on the slopes. Sunday. Feb. 2 at noon. Tickets: $15 (members), $20 (non-members), $12 (children under 12)

"McConkey": McConkey examines the revolution he caused in free skiing and ski-base jumping, as he conquered imposing mountains. Q&A filmmaker David Zieff Steve Winter, Murray Wais, Rob Bruce, Scott Gaffney, David Zieff. Thursday, Feb. 6 at 7:30 p.m.

"Branca's Pitch":  Brooklyn Dodgers pitcher, Ralph Branca, became a baseball legend on Oct. 3, 1951, giving up the game-winning home run and the National League pennant to the team’s rival, the N.Y. Giants. Q&A Ralph Branca and Andrew Muscato, Monday, Feb. 10 at 7:00 p.m.

"The Armstrong Lie":  Alex Gibney presents a movie of Lance Armstrong's improbable rise and fall. Wednesday, Feb. 19 at 7:30 p.m.

Concluding activities will take place in the Jane Peck Gallery.
