OSSINING, N.Y. -- It won't be safe to go into the forest Friday in Ossining.

Ossining hopes its haunted hayride will get people in the Halloween spirit.

The Ossining Historic Cemeteries Conservancy, along with the Ossining Parks and Recreation Department, are hosting the Forest of Fears Hayride Oct. 24 at Cedar Lane Park.

The ticket line opens at 6:15 p.m. and ticket sales end at 9:30 p.m with the hayride lasting about 15 minutes. Admission is $5 with refreshments for purchase. Organizers warn the event may not be suitable for younger children.

The Ossining Historic Cemeteries Conservancy is a new organization that is in the process of becoming a non-profit. The event, which helps with grave restoration at Dale and Sparta Cemeteries, is hoping fundraisers like this can raise money and boost the profile of the organization.

"We've had a wonderful group of volunteers," said Event Organizer Fern Quezada, who incidently will be dressing as a vampire-style hostess for Halloween. "I've lived here for three years and am always looking for something low cost to do with my kids. I love Halloweeen, so I thought why not do a hayride?"

The hayride will feature werewolves and an axe murderer among other haunted treats.

Quezada praised the more than 40 volunteers who have come together to put together something memorable. "We have an amazing creative bunch of people," she explained. "We've had adults who have taken half days and full days off to put this together. They have come up with things I never would've thought of."
