Pair Arrested During Suspected Drug Deal, Atlantic City Police Say

Atlantic City detectives reportedly interrupted a drug sale, authorities said.

At 2:41 p.m. Tuesday, Detectives Darrin Lorady, Christopher Smith, and Christopher Dodson were patrolling the first block of South Florida Avenue when they allegedly spotted a narcotics transaction in progress, an Atlantic City Police Department spokesman sai.

Detectives allegedly witnessedJesse Rios and Tony Jones in an alleyway making the deal, Lt. Kevin Fair said.

The detectives approached the men and noticed a bag of cocaine at the base of Jones’s feet and bags of heroin near the feet of Rios, Fair said.

Both men were arrested.

In total, Jones was found in possession of six bags of cocaine and 170 bags of heroin, Fair said. Rios was in possession of 60 bags of heroin, Fair said. The distinct marking that are placed on bags of heroin were identical on the bags possessed by the two men, he said.

Jones, 53, and Rios, 32, both of Atlantic City were arrested on several drug charges including two counts of intent to distribute a controlled dangerous substance within 1,000 feet of a school zone 

Both men were released on a summons with a future court date.
