Estranged Husband ID'd As Suspect In Pregnant 27-Year-Old Woman's Murder

The man arrested in connection with the murder of a pregnant Long Island woman who was found strangled in her home two weeks ago has been identified as her estranged husband.

Michael Owen, 27, of Saint James, was arrested on Tuesday, Jan. 28 in connection to the homicide of Kelly Owen, also age 27, in South Farmingdale, on Wednesday afternoon, Jan. 15, Nassau County Police announced.

Michael Owen, a former Marine, was charged with second-degree murder. He will be arraigned on Wednesday, Jan. 29, 2020 at First District Court in Hempstead.

Kelly Owen, a nursing student, lived at the South Farmingdale house on 1st Avenue with her mother, father and 6-year-old brother.

The two, who had a prior domestic in December of 2018, were estranged since January of 2019, but still had a physical relationship, police said.

Police said investigators believe Michael Owen strangled Kelly Owen after she told him she was pregnant with their second child.

The Medical Examiner's Office had determined the cause of death to be asphyxiation, police said.
