Clifton Nurse Accused Of Striking Dementia Patient, 87

CLIFTON, N.J. — A nurse from Union was recently indicted on a charge of fourth-degree assault after co-workers witnessed her striking an 87-year-old dementia patient in the head and art at the Daughters of Miriam nursing home in Clifton in January, Attorney General Christopher S. Porrino announced.

The indictment of Cairy Chrisphonte, 54, stems from investigations conducted by the Office of the Insurance Fraud Prosecutor Medicaid Fraud Control Unit (MFCU), which receives federal funding to investigate and prosecute Medicaid provider fraud as well as the abuse or neglect of Medicaid patients, or patients who reside in facilities that receive Medicaid funding.

Two others indicted were Debra L. Matela, 44, of Turnersville, and Danny Brown, 55, of Easton, PA.
