James Aloysius Gallagher, 87, Of Beacon

BEACON, N.Y. -- James Aloysius Gallagher, a lifetime resident of Beacon and Wappingers Falls, died Wednesday, May 18. He was 87.

Born May 3, 1929, in Beacon, he was the son to the late Neil and Mary Margaret McGrath Gallagher. He was one of 21 siblings.

He was a proud Korean War veteran, serving his country in the U.S. Army in Germany. He was the owner of Gallagher Shell Service Station, a popular gathering spot in the heart of Beacon for many years. He was a proud volunteer firefighter with the Beacon W.H Mase Hook and Ladder Co. and was a pioneer in Pop Warner Football in Beacon.

He is survived by his wife Ruth Johnson; children Linda McLaughlin and her husband Joe Manto, James and his wife Cynthia, Robert Gallagher and Karen Kreppein and her husband Robert; grandchildren Brendan McLaughlin, Ryan and Erin Gallagher; sister Kathleen Krawiec; brothers John and Thomas; and many nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 2-4 p.m. Sunday at Robert H. Auchmoody Funeral Home, 1028 Main St., Fishkill. Burial will at 9 a.m. Monday at Saratoga National Cemetery with full military honors.
