Its 60 members are a diverse group of men and women of all ages and backgrounds.

Key fundraisers target local hunger and a host of other causes locally and around the world.

In 2015, $20,000 was raised from an annual Wine & Food Festival a benefit that helped organizations like People to People Rockland County food pantry.

The club nearly doubled the amount raised its its first such event the previous year. That fundraiser took in $11,000.

“We spent about three months planning the first one, and put more time into this past September’s festival. We’re already planning the next one scheduled for Sept. 10," said New City Rotary President Kevin Hardy.

"The main focus of our fundraising is hunger. We also gave $5,000 to Meals-on-Wheels, and the rest was put towards our other causes, such as Shelter Box in Nepal around the time of the earthquake, and a girl’s school for the blind in India. Also, one of our Rotarians is an oral surgeon who volunteers in St. Lucia. We bought supplies for him to take there. Locally, we run a blood drive and a food drive, and we clean up a section of (Route) 304) in New City every year,” he said.

Hardy said new members, younger professionals especially, are welcome and especially urged to attend a meeting and learn more.

“I think younger people are rediscovering some of these organizations. There is a trend for people to give back to their communities. Rotary is a great way to do that and make new connections."

Hardy owns Town Car Limousine in Rockland County. He attributes the majority of his clientele to being a Rotarian.

“It is a respected organization, and it’s not so much that you draw customers to your business but people get to know and trust you,” he said.
