The Club At Briarcliff Manor Unveils Time Capsule

BRIARCLIFF MANOR, N.Y. – Kathleen Ullo is hoping Briarcliff Manor still has DVD players 100 years into the future.

More than 100 people celebrated the unveiling of a time capsule Aug. 8 that is set to be placed at the cornerstone of The Club at Briarcliff Manor’s future site prior to construction. The 59-acre site is scheduled to break ground in early 2013 with completion set for some time in 2014. The time capsule will be placed in order to remember the occasion and the work that is going into building the senior living community, said Ullo, the club’s vice president of sales.

“One of the items is a virtual tour of the community on a DVD. Who knows if they’ll be able to play a DVD when they open it up, but we thought it would be fun to include a DVD,” Ullo said with a laugh.

The time capsule also included items from the Briarcliff Lodge, the former resort hotel that sat on the location in the 1900s. The Aug. 8 event also featured a barbecue and tours of the site where plans are in place to build “professionally decorated” homes. The Club at Briarcliff Manor is set to be a retirement community with roughly 325 apartments, townhouses and villas, according to officials. Prices for the homes start at $419,900.

Ullo said the annual barbecue is one of many events at that cater to future residents.

“We are trying to have more and more programs at the club so that people who are going to be our future residents will be able to get a first-hand feeling for what life will be like when they move in,” Ullo said. “This is a continuing-care retirement community and we feel like this is really a lifestyle choice they are making so we want them to experience that lifestyle before they even move in.”
