Mediterraneao Opens In White Plains, Brings Taste Of Shore To City

WHITE PLAINS, N.Y. -- A previously unoccupied building in White Plains has been transformed in a stunning three-story restaurant filled with warm walnut woods, custom lighting fixtures, a nautical-like wooden floor, white Calcutta marble and a signature open kitchen complete with wood-burning oven.

The ceremonial ribbon cutting of Mediterraneao took place Thursday, Nov. 10 with Mayor Tom Roach, County Executive Rob Astorino, Louis Cappelli, the owner of the landmark building, and Ramze Zakka of Z Hospitality Group in attendance.

Zakka and his team proudly thanked White Plains and the Westchester community for the tremendous support behind the restaurant. “We are excited to be here,” he said. “We have enjoyed many years of success in Rye with our restaurant Aurora and we are looking forward to introducing White Plains to our unique culinary and hospitality experience.”

The Mediterranean eatery is also, he noted, one of the most architecturally unique establishments the company has launched in its 25 year history.

The Z Hospitality Group operates eight restaurants in both Fairfield County and Westchester. The company started with Terra in Greenwich, Conn. and recently opened another Terra in Danbury earlier this month.

Executive Chef, Albert DeAngelis, who has been with the group for over 20 years, is a Westchester native -- he lives in Armonk -- and is looking forward to connecting with his community. He said the White Plains restaurant will offer the same Mediterranean foods found at Mediterraneao in Greenwich and Norwalk amidst a casual yet chic and comfortable atmosphere.

The restaurant was built to take advantage of its natural elements to enhance the sunlight that shines through the marine colored glass, providing guests with the feeling of being at the shore.

The dishes enhance that sentiment with wood-oven cooked pizzas, branzino, chicken, homemade pastas and farm to table seafood and vegetables. A host of seasonal offerings, along with an extensive, carefully selected wine list, are also on the menu.

And then there's Master Mixologist, Juan Meyer, recently voted Number One bartender at the 2016 Greenwich Food & Wine Festival who provides the restaurant with a host of inventive cocktails. Each week, Mediterraneao will host a special happy hour from 4 to 6 p.m. with a 50 percent discount wine appreciation on Tuesdays and prix fixed lunches throughout the week.

Mediterraneao is open for  lunch and dinner and has event space for holiday events and parties. It is located at 89 Main St., White Plains, (914) 448-8800, www.zhospitalitygroup.com/.
